What to wear for a pre-wedding shoot
The short answer: something you already own and already like. The longer answer involves a little thought about colour, texture and where you are standing.
The best pre-wedding photographs we have taken involved clothes the couple had worn before. Not new, not borrowed, and definitely not bought the week before for the shoot. You can always tell — people move differently in something they are still getting used to.
Colour matters more than pattern. Pick two or three tones between you that sit near each other rather than fighting, and let the location supply the contrast. A muted palette against a loud backdrop nearly always beats the reverse.
Texture photographs beautifully and prints even better: linen, raw silk, khadi, anything with a weave you can see. Flat synthetics tend to go dull, especially in the soft light we usually shoot these in.
One last thing. Bring a second option, but do not bring five. Every outfit change costs twenty minutes of the golden hour, and the light will not wait for you to decide.
